Acquired by the current owners a decade ago and developed with its bird habitat in mind, Wing Ranch offers exceptional recreational acreage in the heart of some of central Montana’s best upland bird-hunting territory. The ranch, located about 35 miles north of Lewiston, Montana, comprises 1,247 deeded acres amidst a landscape of riparian wetlands, grasslands and agricultural acreage.

Some 30,000 trees were recently planted along the banks of the East Fork of Salt Creek, providing shelter and nesting cover for migrating birdlife including ducks and Canada geese, as well as resident species of waterfowl and other wildlife. A large, spring-fed half-acre pond contributes to the year-round flow of the east and west forks of Salt Creek, both of which run through Wing Ranch. Water structures were installed to protect the water rights of the East Fork of Salt Creek and have created a substantial duck habitat. A conservation easement was put in place to preserve a portion of the riparian areas.

The ranch has currently been in operation as a private hunting venue, notably for its populations of Hungarian partridge and sharp tail grouse, which take advantage of varied cover and habitat among the ranch’s fields of alfalfa and wheat fields. The ranch headquarters includes substantial dog kennels and other facilities related to the bird-hunting operation here.

A pair of recently renovated lodges offer comfortable accommodations for the ranch’s owners and guests alike. The nearby town of Lewiston is the county seat for Fergus County, and is gateway to the area’s plethora of outdoor activities, which include fly-fishing along the region’s many tranquil trout streams, hiking and biking miles of forested trails and hunting a diverse array of wildlife from big-game elk and antelope to mountain grouse, pheasant and quail.
