Congratulations to Ranch Marketing Associates and M4 Ranch Group for the joint sale this week of 56,061-acre Wolf Springs Ranch, an outstanding legacy ranch set along the eastern front of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in south-central Colorado. This sale occurred on October 26, 2017, and marks the second-largest land sale of the year to date after the sale of 83,368-acre Cielo Vista Ranch in a similar region of the state this August. Wolf Springs was a featured property in the fall 2017 issue of LAND magazine.
Assembled by the previous owner over many years from a patchwork of small purchases and public land trades, the ranch is a recreational paradise that is, in short, one of the true gems of the American West. Its 55,486 deeded acres offer abundant natural resources, production capabilities and magnificent scenery along the eastern face of the Continental Divide.
Along with an established herd of American bison, the ranch supports a large herd of some 600 elk as well as other big game animals including mule deer, pronghorn antelope, bear and mountain lion. Several fishing reservoirs are stocked with large rainbow, brook and brown trout for fly-fishing enthusiasts.
A four-season climate brings relatively mild winters, plentiful days of sunshine throughout the year and a fall season when the hillsides burst with the colors of the changing aspens. Mostly located in Huerfano County south of the cowboy town of Westcliffe, convenient access to the ranch make this an ideal retreat for new owners looking to enjoy the unique merits of this distinctive land holding.
