Named after then-President Ulysses S. Grant, Grant County has its share of Civil War- and Reconstruction-era history. Located to the south of Little Rock in a rural landscape of rolling, pine-covered hills, the county is centered around the city of Sheridan. Threaded by a number of scenic rivers and creeks, including the Saline River, the county offers some excellent fishing as well as canoeing and floating. In places like Jenkins Ferry State Park, dense forests line the banks and are home to various species of fish and wildlife. County anglers can cast their line for fish including bass, Arkansas walleye, channel catfish and panfish. Hunting is also a popular local pastime. A total of around 3,000 acres were listed for sale in Arkansas's Grant County recently, representing a total value of almost $27 million in Grant County farms, ranches, hunting land and other land for sale. Grant County ranks 39th out of 75 counties in the Natural State for the total acreage of land currently advertised for sale. Of all locations in Grant County with farms and ranches for sale, Sheridan had the most land for sale. Grant County is the 47th biggest county (632 square miles) in Arkansas. It's located in the Timberlands Arkansas region of the state.
