Named after then-President Ulysses S. Grant, Grant County has its share of Civil War- and Reconstruction-era history. Located to the south of Little Rock in a rural landscape of rolling, pine-covered hills, the county is centered around the city of Sheridan. Threaded by a number of scenic rivers and creeks, including the Saline River, the county offers some excellent fishing as well as canoeing and floating. In places like Jenkins Ferry State Park, dense forests line the banks and are home to various species of fish and wildlife. County anglers can cast their line for fish including bass, Arkansas walleye, channel catfish and panfish. Hunting is also a popular local pastime. Land for sale in Grant County recently totaled almost $29 million and nearly 3,000 acres. Grant County ranks 40th out of 75 counties in the Natural State for the combined amount of land currently advertised for sale. Among cities in Grant County with farms and ranches for sale, Sheridan had the most land for sale. Grant County is the 47th largest county (632 square miles) in Arkansas.
