Las Animas County, Colorado Rural Land For Sale

Las Animas County, slightly smaller than the state of Connecticut, is home to over 500 farms that are significantly larger than the state average (3,500 acres per farm). Agricultural receipts show that livestock sales account for some 90 percent of the county's total agricultural output. The Las Animas County area has something of a counterculture vibe, centered around the county seat of Trinidad and with history that dates back to the frontier days of the Santa Fe Trail and reported visits from such iconoclastic figures as Al Capone and Wyatt Earp. In more recent history, Trinidad gave rise to nearby Drop City, the country's first rural hippie commune that was founded by a group of art students and filmmakers in the 1960s. It has since been abandoned. The county is characterized by wide-open plains and sweeping views of the distant Sangre de Cristo mountains. A combined almost 100,000 acres were listed for sale in Las Animas County recently; the combined value of all Las Animas County land for sale was $136 million. Las Animas County ranks 23rd out of 64 counties in the state for the total acreage of land currently advertised for sale. There were five properties listed as sold in Las Animas County through the Land Network Comparable Sales Program. This represented a total value of $2,384,995. Trinidad featured the most land for sale. Las Animas County is the largest county in Colorado (4,775 square miles). It's located in the Southeast Colorado region of Colorado.
