The Texas Panhandle gets its name for its proximity to the handle-shaped portion of its neighbor, Oklahoma. It is the state's least populated region. The total acreage of all Sherman County ranches, farms, hunting land and other rural land and acreage for sale was almost 100,000 acres. Sherman County ranks 235th based on the combined acreage of land for sale among the 254 counties in the Lone Star State. Of all locations in Sherman County with land for sale, Stratford featured the most land for sale. Agriculture and farming drives the Sherman County economy, with 313 farms recorded in the county during the U.S. Census in 2012. Farming activities in Sherman County generate annual revenues of $13 million, the majority of which comes from livestock products. Sherman County is the 121st largest county (923 square miles) in Texas. It's located in the Panhandle Texas region of the state.
