Description

The 240 acre Elk Creek timber and recreation tract is located between Lost Creek Lake

and Elk Creek, three miles northeast of the Rogue River community of Shady Cove, and 29 miles northeast of Medford. The property is along thewest facing slopes of Tatouche Peak and was impacted by the 2002 Timbered Rock Fire. There is some residual timber along the northfacing slopes. It was not replanted after the fire. There is an abandoned logging road that had provided access across Elk Creek which has been decommissioned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Adjoining owners include the BLM, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and private timberland owners. The property may have use as a secluded hunting camp. It is located within Dixon Hunting Unit.

Township 33 South, Range 1 West, Section 4, Tax Lot 500. There is no access to the parcel. From

Medford, take OR Hwy 62 (Crater Lake Highway) north. Turn left onto Elk Creek Road, about 3.1 miles northeast of Trail and proceed 6.6 miles. A decommissioned road is located on the right. Park here and hike down the road, then follow old road system into the unit by crossing Elk Creek.
