The Riverview Ranch is a recreationalists paradise located on the historic John Day River. The ranch has unique access controls to well over 20,000 acres of limited public access acres as well as other private ranch lands. The John Day River is a tributary of the Columbia River and is approximately 281 miles long. The river is the second longest free-flowing river in the conterminous United States. It is classified as a Wild and Scenic river under Oregon Scenic Waterways Act. Much of the river is surrounded by steep basalt canyon walls, juniper, and sagebrush. Although it is best known for its smallmouth bass fishing, the John Day River is famous for its wild steelhead. The system has one of the last all-wild runs of adronomous fish east of the Cascade Mountains. The ranch holds private access to a boat launch on it southern end that will allows owners and there guest to launch 4 miles up river from the main ranch homes. This float makes for a great afternoon fishing experience that can last 2-6 hours depending on river flow rates. Cattle share thousands of acres with elk, deer, antelope and game birds while the river supports Bass, Steelhead, trout & waterfowl and supplies irrigation water to 150 acres of pasture/hay ground. The end of road privacy and overall beauty of the ranch makes for the ultimate mix of relaxation and seclusion.
