San Isabel National Forest is just 3 miles east of this land with loads of forest service roads for ATV's, vehicles, exploring and hiking. Aspen Mountain Ranch is too far from traditional utilities, so solar or generator power is the way to live. This self-sufficient life offers dark, quiet nights and peace filled days. The sun shines 360 days of the year making even winter comfortable. Air conditioning is NOT NEEDED, as the evenings are cool and the days mild. Custer County is a friendly, easy-to-get-along-with rural county and does not allow for the commercial growing of marijuana. The biggest industries are high-protein grass-hay, beef cattle, and tourism. Westcliffe is located approximately 75 miles from Colorado Springs with incredible wildlife viewing, big game hunting, boating, fishing and first-class fly-fishing and rafting on the Arkansas River just 30 minutes from town. Skiing at Monarch Ski Area is 90 minutes from Westcliffe. For hikers & backpackers, the Rainbow Trail (which runs from Westcliffe to Salida covering nearly 100 miles along the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains), can be accessed just west of town.
