Cotulla, TX 78014 - La Salle County

The Baylor Ranch is located about 20 miles southeast of Cotulla on both sides of the Nueces River. The Ranch has frontage on FM 624 and on both sides of Huajuco Road.

The Nueces River runs through the middle of the Ranch with two crossing points a concrete low water crossing and a steel pipe bridge over the River. The bottomland along the river is traversed by a big slough that splits off from the river about midway through the ranch. The various creeks on the Ranch are part of the Nueces watershed.

The western side of the Ranch has mostly sandy loam soils, and some big mesquite trees. A cell tower on the western side provides a modest annual lease payment.

The eastern portion of the Ranch has rolling hills covered with Blackbrush and Guajillo. A modest 4-bedroom hunting lodge. is located on one of the higher points on the Ranch and offers nice views looking west toward the River. Each bedroom in the hunting lodge has a bathroom with walk-in shower. The house pasture has 2 water wells and a large stock tank. The Ranch also has 9 smaller stock tanks across the property.

The Ranch has electricity on both the eastern and western pastures. There are three pastures and a set of cattle pens. The perimeter is mostly high-fenced with a portion of the north side that has a good 5-wire barbed wire fence.

The diversity of brush and wildlife habitat is very good, including whitetail deer, turkey, quail, dove, javelinas, and other wild hogs. The Ranch also adjoins large, well-managed hunting ranches.

The Baylor Ranch was part of the La Mota Ranch founded in 1876 by Amanda Burks and her husband William Franklin Burks. Following her husbands death, Amanda continued to trade cattle for another 50 years. She was known as "the Queen of the Old Trail Drivers".
