4.95 acres in Summers County, West Virginia

Willowood Lodge on the Greenbrier River.

This outstanding 4600+/- square feet log home on 4.95 acres has 840 of direct frontage on the Greenbrier River. Fishing from the bank in front of the Lodge is exceptional with a deep hole known for producing loads of bass and bream. Put in a canoe, kayak or tube and take a lazy float down river to the Bluestone Dam and the 2000 acre Bluestone Lake just a few miles downriver.

The 4600+/- square feet lodge was built in 1994 and no detail was overlooked to make this a very special place to get away and enjoy a slower pace of life. This charming rustic lodge has exposed log beams and columns with several living areas to satisfy every taste. The upstairs is divided into two parts to allow for separate living areas. Sun room, hot tub room, pool room, crafts room, outdoor decks and a great room all make for living life on the river a very rewarding experience.

The 4.95 acres is level to gently rolling and has Tulip Poplar and Sycamore trees that are over 150 years old. A lovely old Chinese Chestnut tree produces hundreds of pounds of chestnuts each year that can be roasted or eaten fresh right out of the pod. Some nice Black Walnut trees drop hundreds of nuts each fall season and can be added to fudge or cakes for a nice late season snack. Other nut trees include hazelnuts and paw paws. Many varieties of berries may be found on the property including red and black raspberries, thornless blackberries, and strawberries (planted around the fire pit). Around the fire pit you may also find asparagus, garlic and onions. A large apple tree and peach trees also provide fruit to be enjoyed.

Squirrels and deer make their home here and just about any morning you can find a great blue heron wading in the shallows along the rivers edge. The wood ducks, mallards and geese favor the quiet pool created by the great sandbar jutting out into the Greenbrier River. The bald eagles, songbirds, owls, hawks, blue jays and cardinals also enjoy the large majestic trees surrounding the lodge and river and are a pleasant addition to the peace and quiet found in this lovely area of Summers County.

Within a 1/2 hours drive are located some of the finest recreational facilities in West Virginia. Winterplace Ski Resort, whitewater rafting / fishing on the Greenbrier, New River and Gauley River, 2000 acre Bluestone Lake, Pipestem State Park and Resort and the 80,000 acre New River Gorge National Park. Five other area state parks and state forests offer unlimited hiking, horseback riding, ATV riding and rock climbing opportunities.

The Greenbrier River is 173 miles long and is the last free-flowing river east of the Mississippi. It is an excellent river to float or canoe and is well known for its large and small mouth bass fishing. It is the gateway to water recreation and fun and is at most times lazy and easy to navigate.

The Greenbrier River is formed by the confluence of the East Fork Greenbrier River and the West Fork Greenbrier River in the town of Durbin, West Virginia. From Durbin the Greenbrier River flows southwesterly through Pocahontas, Greenbrier, Monroe, and Summers Counties. It flows through several communities including Cass, Marlinton, Hillsboro, Ronceverte, Fort Spring, Alderson, and Hinton. The Greenbrier River joins the New River in the town of Hinton, West Virginia.
