Savage Land
So beautiful is the land; the meadows, the forest, the views to the Rocky Mountains and the extravagant, prominent, rock outcrop in the very corner of the acreage. Cutting through the perimeter-fenced land, with plenty of elk and deer sign covering it, I drift back to the north where large boulders seem to have been tossed about by some unknown hand. Surrounding the large boulders that have been tossed, one upon the other, young aspen and small pine grow. Some grow from cracks within the boulders making them even more intriguing. There are several aspen groves testifying to the underground flow of water headed toward a sub-irrigated meadow below and off the land. One of these beautiful groves is in the corner where the rock outcrop, trees, boulders, and the views to the high mountains in the west, all create a most spectacular site for a home or cabin.
The acreage is pristine in that no one has grazed it, except for the wild game, and no one has lived on it...yet. There are neighbors hidden from view and the electricity isn't far off, but I have no cost estimate for that. The land would suit solar too, as it is south-facing. This is just a stunning piece of acreage and don't be fooled by the name of the owner, Savage. It's a very good name for very good land.
Located approximately 1-2 hours from Colorado Springs and only minutes from the quaint town of Westcliffe, you'll enjoy wildlife-viewing and big-game hunting in this undiscovered mountain valley. There's boating and fishing at Lake DeWeese or first-class fly-fishing and rafting on the Arkansas River just 30-45 minutes away. Skiing at Monarch Ski Area is 90 minutes from town and for hikers, bicyclists or backpackers, the Rainbow Trail that runs from Salida to Westcliffe (over 100 miles) along the eastern edge of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, is accessible just west of our town.
