SURROUNDING AREA

Lewisburg, which is the Greenbrier County seat, was voted the Coolest Small Town in America in 2011, combining the warmth of a close community with the sophistication of more urban locations. The thriving downtown historic district offers year-round live productions presented at the State Professional Theatre of WV, Carnegie Hall, distinctive dining venues, antique shops, award-winning galleries/boutiques, and two summer-season farmers markets. GREENBRIER RIVER

The Greenbrier River is 173 miles long is the last free flowing river east of the Mississippi. It is an excellent river to float or canoe and is well known for its large and small mouth bass fishing. It is the gateway to water recreation and fun as it is at most times lazy and easy to navigate.

The Greenbrier River is formed by the confluence of the East Fork Greenbrier River and the West Fork Greenbrier River in the town of Durbin, West Virginia. From Durbin the Greenbrier River flows southwesterly through Pocahontas, Greenbrier, Monroe, and Summers Counties. It flows through several communities including Cass, Marlinton, Hillsboro, Ronceverte, Fort Spring, Alderson, and Hinton. The Greenbrier River joins the New River in the town of Hinton, West Virginia.

GREENBRIER RIVER TRAIL

The 77 mile long Greenbrier River Trail is operated by the West Virginia State Parks and is a former railroad grade now used for hiking, bicycling, ski-touring, horseback-riding, and wheel-chair use. The trail passes through numerous small towns and traverses 35 bridges and 2 tunnels as it winds its way along the valley. Most of the trail is adjacent to the free-flowing Greenbrier River and is surrounded by peaks of the Allegheny Mountains.

SNOWSHOE MOUNTAIN

This relaxed ski resort sits on 251 acres of skiable terrain and 11,000 acres of wilderness nestled amid the Allegheny Mountains, which are part of the vast Appalachian Mountain Range. It is positioned in the bowl shaped convergence of Cheat and Back Allegheny mountains, at the head of the Shavers Fork and Cheat River. Snowshoe is home to the second highest point in the state and the peak elevation for Cheat Mountain, at Thorny Flat, which reaches 4,848 feet above sea level. More than 5,000 guests enjoy Snowshoes slopes each season. From the intersection of I-64 Exit 169 and Seneca Trail US 219 just north of Lewisburg, travel I-64 West for approximately 8.3 miles to Alta Exit 161; at the end of the exit ramp turn right onto WV RT 12 and travel approximately mile; turn right onto US 60 East and travel a very short distance; turn left onto Sinking Creek Road / Williamsburg Road; travel towards Williamsburg for approximately 6 miles; just past a large barn sitting on the right side of the road, turn left onto Cornstalk Road WV RT 9/7; travel WV RT 9/7 for approximately 3/10 of a mile, passing the Cold Spring Church; the property (home has a red roof) is on the right.
