The San Juan Creek Ranch, a portion of the historic Charco Redondo, is located in southeastern Zapata County. The ranch provides a great opportunity to own an unspoiled piece of the low country. The ranch is loaded with native South Texas wildlife, seasonal water and has a beautiful combination of habitats and soils consisting of sandy loams and clays.

LOCATION

The ranch is located 28 miles from Zapata and 70 miles south of Laredo, TX. Access to the ranch is off a county road connecting to FM 2687.

TOPOGRAPHY, RANGELAND & HABITAT

The ranch features seasonal water in San Juan Creek and other bottoms that traverse the ranch. This riparian habitat positively impacts the ranchs diversity in habitat and support for producing large native whitetail deer. The soils covering the ranch consist of sandy loams and clays that in our experience are conducive towards doing a variety of wildlife-focused ranch projects.

WILDLIFE

The native browse, grasses, forbs and succulents provide excellent forage for the wildlife species. Native game species found on the ranch include white-tailed deer, blue quail, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey and dove.

WATER

San Juan Creek traverses the property from the northeast to the southwest corner providing seasonal waterholes perfect for wildlife and livestock alike. In addition to the seasonal water holes there are 2 earthen tanks.

AREA HISTORY

In 1953, Mexican President Adolfo Ruiz Cortines and President Dwight D. Eisenhower dedicated Falcon Dam and created an 85,000-acre reservoir known as Lake Falcon. With the creation of the reservoir, the federal government took possession of all lands adjacent to the reservoir that fell below 307 ft elevation as low lands. This excellent fishery is only 30+/- minutes from the ranch gate!
