Long Point Island, Barco, NC 27917 - Currituck County

Long Point Beacon Light (No. 8) was established in 1879 on Coinjock Bay in the Currituck Sound in coastal North Carolina. Little history is known about the station or its occupants, except that the Coast Guard retired it in 1901. They maintain a picture in their files of the Keeper's Home as taken on June 19, 1893. Also, the island later served as a refueling station for seaplanes for the Coast Guard in World War II. Adjoining Channel Marker #116 in the Atlantic

Intracoastal Waterway, the island offers a unique opportunity for private ownership of unobstructed views of Coinjock Bay and the ICW.

At the north end of the island, there is a 1,000 foot private beach with majestic trees on the hillside above it. Another 750 foot beach, along the northeast shoreline houses old ruins from the island historic past. This island's 56 acres are home to 15.7 acres of native timber and upland, suitable for building your island retreat...or several.

Just a short jaunt from the island lies the famous North Carolina Outer Banks, and a quick trip across Coinjock Bay brings you to the Currituck mainlan, known far and wide as "The Sportsman's Paradise". Once on the mainland, you are just 20 minutes to the beaches at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, or 30 minutes to the shopping in the Tidewater area of Virginia, or to the regional hub of Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Long Point Island has been plotted as 5 10.8 Acre building sites, each with an allocated share of upland timber and beautiful waterfront and marshes. The current island owners will provide underground power to the island. Suitable county health surveys of the island have been completed, and your island will be certified for building your dream home, or to turn the island into a conservation habitat for generations to come.

Included in the purchase price of the island is a caretaker's home located on the Currituck Mainland, about 1,000 yards from the island itself. The caretaker's home includes over 900' of bulkheaded waterfront on Coinjock Bay. The homesite also includes a boat launch with direct access to Long Point Island.
