Water:

Sheep Creek is a seasonal creek that runs through the property. I have been

on the property several times over the last few months as we have been cutting in

access roads to be able to look over the property, and each time that I have been

to the ranch, I have seen a flow of water at different locations along the creek. It seems

as if the water table is very high from all the rain we have had and the water is

flowing intermittently from north to south. There is also a small pool of water that

seems to be spring fed. I have not been able to verify that it maintains water throughout the heat of the summer.

There are many tributaries feeding the creek that may be possible areas for stock tanks to be dug.

Wildlife:

I have seen plenty of wild hog sign while traversing the property, and have

jumped hogs from the thick bedding cover along the creek. Whitetail deer will use

the property for bedding and Sheep Creek is also a great natural travel corridor

for deer to travel from the South Wichita River on the properties south to the grain

fields that neighbor the ranch on the north.

Coyote sign is abundant on the property as well.

Improvements: None

Land:

Sheep Creek Ranch lies a little east and north of the Narrows, which separates

the watersheds of the Brazos and the Wichita Rivers. The ranch lies within the

badlands of Knox county, country known for its canyons, ravines, gullies, and

hoodoos. The color variation of the clay rich soils and sedimentary rock deposits

make for some beautiful scenery in the soft light of dusk and dawn. This country

was also prime buffalo hunting grounds of several Native American tribes, because

of its buffalo grass, and freshwater springs.

Minerals: None

Taxes: $625 for 2019

Summary:

In the early 1870s Sheep Creek Ranch was 100 miles west of the frontier in unsettled territory.

There is a lot of interesting history in this area from the westward expansion of the settlements,

to the great buffalo hunters and herdsman establishing the trails of major cattle drives moving

their cattle west and then north for sale, all of this along with some very interesting geology.

This country is not for the faint of heart, its rough, rugged, and beautiful all wrapped up in one package.

Sheep Creek Ranch has the recreational potential to be a very nice hunting property, pursuing wild hogs,

whitetail deer, predators, and possibly some dove hunting when the area fields are planted in grain

or the fields are left fallow and growing croton and sunflowers. There is also spectacular potential

here for the ATV enthusiast. With all of the canyons, gullies, ridges, and creek bottoms you could

have a series of trails to keep you busy most of the day.
