Moss Farm

Location

The Moss Farm is located in southwestern Archer County along the South Fork of the Little Wichita. It is about a 10-minute drive from Olney and a 20-minute drive from Archer City. The ranch is also within a 2-hour drive of the DFW metroplex.

Water

The South Fork of the little Wichita bisects the farm and it basically separates the tillable ground on the east from the pasture to the west. There are three ponds on the property, and rural water supplies the home.

Wildlife

The Moss Farm provides all of the essentials for wildlife; food, water and cover. Surface water includes the three ponds and the creek which will hold water in the deeper cuts during the wet season. The winter wheat crop pulls in Whitetail deer, hogs and turkeys. The turkeys also frequent the homestead where they feed on the acorns and pecans dropped by the large oak and pecan trees located around the farmhouse.

Land

There is not much elevation change within the property and the soils are mostly a silty clay loam with some clay loam.

Improvements

The Moss Farm includes a 1500 sq./ft. home that was built in the late 80’s and just went through a renovation in the last few years. The home includes an attached garage and a closed in sun porch. The property also has a concrete floored shop building that includes some outside covered and uncovered corrals and loading chute.  The north and west fences are new, the east fence is in good shape and the south fence is fair. There are a couple of small outbuildings close to the home that can be used for storage. The homestead also has a hand-dug water well which is not in use at this time.

Property Summary

The same family has owned this property for a little over one hundred years. The property has traditionally been farmed for winter wheat. The farming is leased at this time and is a possible source of agricultural income. The farm contains about 35 acres of tillable ground with the remainder being pasture. The Moss Farm also has great recreational opportunities, from fishing the ponds with the kiddos to hunting opportunities for Whitetail deer, hogs and turkeys. The area around the home has been very well taken care of and the large oak and pecan trees around the homestead make for a great setting to enjoy the early morning sunrise.
