Today Golconda is mostly residential, with some nearby ranching and light industry. Nearby natural features include the Sonoma Range and Paradise Valley. Some modern mining operations still exist in the surrounding area, but not within the town itself. The Golconda Summit on I-80 is a well-known landmark near the area.
Winnemucca
The closest decent sized city to this parcel is Winnemucca. As a thriving gold and silver mining town, Winnemucca lies at the half way point between San Francisco and Salt Lake City.
